So far this has to be one of the main attractions on the trip.
If you want to take a really beautiful drive try the 101 which hugs the hilly coast full of lush green vegetation placed in contrast with bright sparkling blue water.
Running along this (Emerald Coast) is littered with islands, beaches and colonial settlements.
Iiha Grande and Angra do Reis and Paraty are the major attractions and stops along this beautiful coast.
One of the best locations we stayed at is Paraty a world Unesco site. Only 98km from Angra dos Reis, Paraty is one of the pretties’ colonial towns I have ever seen.
Take a look at this video of Partay
The members of this quite and intimate town have worked very hard to preserve the charm of time gone by. So much so the town centre is out of bounds for motor vehicles and the even have a heavy chain strung across the entrance to the streets.
The streets are only large coble stone and all the buildings are from a colonial time period creating a romantic and magical feeling to the small streets.
The town is located directly on the ocean and once a year the streets actually flood but the residents go about business.
Paratys wealthy came through the exportation of coffee and the production of cachaça, also called pinga, a sugar cane liquor. Paraty at one point had over 250 distilleries for cachaça alone, keeping pirates well-stocked and happily sloshed in their local hideouts
This small town is full of Italian immigrants that have set up great coffee, pizzerias and gelato shops.
